2020 State Assessment Prep Classes

Each spring students take the standardized State Assessment in math.  These assessments are designed to test how well students have learned the concepts that have been taught during the school year.  They do not simply test the student’s ability to recall, or perform, arithmetic; they are designed to assess the student’s understanding of the concept.

As an example, there may only be 1 out of 20 questions that simply asks what is 6 x 8 and then give the students 4 answers to choose from.  A more likely question would be: “Mary has 6 bags and each bag contains 8 marbles.  Which of the following number sentences best describes how many marbles Mary has altogether?”  In this case the best answer would be 6 x 8 = 48.

Math Monkey of Leawood is very proud to be offering an eight week State Assessment Prep class that will help students prepare for their exams.

Each class will include eight one hour lessons where students will receive instruction in key math concepts tested on the state assessment.  Concepts include number & operations in base 10, algebraic thinking, geometry, measurement and data, fractions and test taking strategies.

Each student will receive a workbook that includes examples that will be covered in class, and practice problems to work on at home.  In order to provide the highest quality instruction, classes will be limited to 8 students (no exceptions will be made).
