Engineering Lab is a great opportunity for your child to work in an interactive, hands-on environment while learning about engineering, experimentation and problem solving.  Students ages 6 to 9 will learn about the engineering process while working through different builds and experiments.  Builds will include machines that use manual effort, motorized machines, pneumatics and renewable energy (including wind, solar and hydro).  They will work in groups of two to develop an hypothesis, build their machine, test and evaluate.

What will your student learn?

Through LEGO Engineering Lab, students learn numerous skills including:

    • Construction/Following detailed instructions
    • Making educate guesses
    • Testing hypotheses
    • Documenting results
    • Team work
    • Problem Solving
    • Critical Thinking

How does Engineering Lab work?

Under the guidance of our instructors, students will work, in teams of two, through a series of builds where they will follow design documents to complete initial builds.  Once completed they will make hypotheses on how their build will work in different situations.  They will then test their hypotheses and make adjustments so their build will work better and more efficiently.

We want our students to understand that you won’t always succeed the first time.  You need to be patient, think about what went wrong, and then make changes and try again.  Students will learn about the engineering process (design, build, test and refine), simple and compound machines, different forces (gravity, friction, magnetic), and power sources (manual, motorized, solar, wind).

Students can join our engineering lab anytime during the year and continue as long as they like.  Engineering Lab will meet once a week for an hour and a half and each class will be limited to 10 students (maximum 5:1 student to teacher ratio).

Getting Started

Tuition is $138 per month (every 4 weeks of lab).  An initial commitment of 3 months is required and then the commitment will be on a month to month basis (2 weeks, written notice to withdrawal from the class).

Engineering Lab will meet every Saturday from 7:00 to 8:30 pm.  If you are interested in the LEGO Engineering Lab for your student, and have additional questions, please contact us at the Knowledge Center at 913-897-6284.  If you want to reserve your spot you can click on the “Enroll Now” link below.
