Engineering Workshop – Girls ONLY (ages 6-9)

Math Monkey has put together this workshop to give girls a chance to come and learn more about engineering through fun and engaging projects.  We want our female students to understand and realize that they can compete with the boys, and win!

During the workshop, girls will get to visit with our guest speaker Kate Bennewitz.  Mrs. Bennewitz is a Sr. Manager of Women’s Health Engineering at Cerner Corporation.  She has a degree in Management Information Systems from the University of Georgia, and is a member of the Society of Women Engineers and the KC STEM Alliance.

After a visit with Kate, students will get to use our engineering kits to create a couple of different projects, and write a programs on the computer to make their builds perform tasks.

During the workshop students will also learn:

  • about simple and compound machines
  • about the engineering process (design, build, test, redesign)
  • to explore engineering through trial and error
  • how to work in teams and share ideas in a FUN way

If you have a student that you think might be interested in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering & Math), or might want to try one of our engineering or robotics camps over the summer, this is a great opportunity to see what it is all about.
